About Tragumna
Tragumna beach is a relatively gently sloping, sandy, south/south-west facing beach located at the north east of Tragumna Bay. There is a small island (Drishane Island) located in the bay which shelters the beach. The beach adjoins Lough Hyne Nature Reserve & Environs a Special Area of Conservation and a proposed Natural Heritage Area (SAC, pNHA 000097) and the Sheeps Head to Toe Head Special Protection Area (SPA 004156). Tragumna is classified as achieving Excellent Water Quality in 2023 based on the assessment of bacteriological results for the period 2020 to 2023. Tragumna has achieved an Excellent Water Quality rating for the four consecutive years 2020 to 2023. Annual water quality ratings are generally calculated using monitoring results over a four-year period and are assessed against stringent bacterial limits to protect bather health.
